Women’s Basketball Update
Bobcats Sit Atop AMCC Standings

The Bobcats went 2-0 for the week with big wins over AMCC foes LaRoche on Wednesday. Jan.10 and Frostburg State on Saturday, Jan. 13.

At LaRoche, the Bobcats charged ahead by 17 points and took a 36-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. In the second half, the Bobcats continued their strong shooting and cruised to a 67-47 win.

Sophomore forward Erin Arnold (Kiski Area H.S.) led the Bobcats with 20 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, and three blocked shots.  Freshman guard Torey Auld (Seneca Valley H.S.) and freshman forward Nicole Kushner scored in double figures for the Bobcats with 13 points and 10 points, respectively. Auld also led the Bobcats with five assists while senior guard Brianne Krebs (Conemaugh Township H.S.) tallied four steals.

Following the victory over LaRoche, the Bobcats returned home for a game against Frostburg State.  Led by Auld’s 11 points and Kreb’s eight points, the Bobcats opened up a 40-29 lead at halftime.   In the second half, the Bobcats shooting dropped to just 35-percent but the Bobcats held on for a comfortable 68-53 win.   Arnold again turned in a magnificent performance with 19 points and 13 rebounds.  Auld scored 16 points for the Bobcats while Krebs scored ten points.

For her strong performances, Arnold received nomination for AMCC Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week.

The Bobcats sit atop the AMCC standings with an 8-5 record overall and a 4-0 record in conference play.  The Bobcats travel to Waynesburg on Monday, Jan. 15 and to Mt. Aloysius to Wednesday. Jan. 17.  The Bobcats close their week at Penn State-Behrend on Jan. 20.


Men’s Basketball Update
Bobcats Continue To Struggle
The Bobcats went 0-2 for the week with losses coming against AMCC rivals LaRoche on Jan. 10 and Frostburg State on Jan. 13.

The Bobcats traveled to LaRoche on Wednesday, Jan. 10 looking for their second win of the season but fell short, 78-49.  Senior guard Josh Sapotichne (Greensburg Salem H.S.) led the Bobcats in scoring with 21 points.  Sapotichne also recorded team highs with two blocks and eight rebounds.  Sophomore forward Mike Dudek (Woodland Hills H.S.) also grabbed eight rebounds for the Bobcats.

Following the loss to LaRoche, the Bobcats returned home for a Jan. 13 contest against first place Frostburg State.  The Bobcats shot just 35-percent from the field in the first half and trailed Frostburg State 45-34 at halftime.  Sapotichne scored 13 first-half points while junior guard Jeff Fisher (Bethel Park H.S.) had eight points at the half.

The Bobcats shooting picked up in the second half as the team connected on 46-percent of its shots.  However, it wasn’t enough as the Bobcats lost 93-80.  Sapotichne led all scorers with 26 points on 7-21 shooting.  Fisher scored 21 points and recorded a game-high three steals.  Dudek grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Bobcats.

The Bobcats are 1-12 overall with a 1-2 record in AMCC play.  The team hosts Westminster on Monday, Jan. 15 and travels to Penn State-Behrend on Saturday, Jan. 20.
