1974
- Construction started on a multi-purpose building to include a library
and classrooms. Construction also started on a science building, now Smith
Hall, which would hold science labs, classrooms, engineering center, auditorium,
and lounge. First placed in use in 1976. Dedicated on May 17, 1977.
1969 -
First varsity athletic team, Men's Basketball, fielded in 1969/70.
1964 June 29
- Charles McKenna Lynch Estate (104 acres), also called "Starboard
Light", at Mount Pleasant Road, Hempfield Township, is purchased as
the permanent site of the Greensburg Campus.
1982 - University
Court, a three-building complex of garden apartments, is purchased to house
120 students.
1998 - Chancellor's Distinguished
Service Award for Staff Employees presented to Carol Ann Brosier Calloway.
1998 Mar. 25 - Dr. Frank A. Cassell installed as third president of
UPG.
1998 May 1 - Second Annual Children's Literature Conference.
1998 Aug. 31 - Grand opening of Outdoor Recreational Area (Volleyball
and Basketball courts).
1998 Nov. 13 - Ferguson Theater dedicated.
1998 Nov. 16 - Groundbreaking, Phase I, Student Residence Project
(later called Humanities Academic Village).
1988 Mar. - University
of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees assigned degree granting status to the UPG
Campus effective for the 1988/89 academic year.
1988 Sept. 23 - 25th Anniversary of UPG celebrated with a dinner
at the Greensburg-Sheraton.

2002 Jan. 19 - La
Cultura, the Life and Times of Leonardo da Vinci, reception and dinner held.
First da Vinci Scholars named: Dunsanee Buranathanit; Erin O'Donovan; Janice

2002 May 3 - Sixth annual Children's Literature Conference held.
2002 - Chancellor's Distinguished Teaching
Award, Dr. Mary Beth Spore, Assistant Prof. of English; Dr. Walter Orange,
Assistant Prof. of Mathematics.
1980 June 30 - Dr.
Albert B. Smith retired as president of UPG. Dr. George Ferguson Chambers
inaugurated as second president of the Greensburg Campus.
1986 - Chancellor's
Distinguished Teaching Award presented to Dr. Diane Marsh, Professor of
Psychology.
1975 Oct. 26 - Kenneth
E. Bell Memorial Nature Trail dedicated.
1989 Apr. 23 - UPG
conducted its first graduation ceremony at the Sheraton Inn, Greensburg.
1989 Aug. - 40,000 sq. ft. full service Student Activities Center,
now Chambers Hall, opened. Cost, $5.25 million. A new 22,000 sq. ft. residence
hall, costing $2.5 million, was dedicated to the memory of John A. and Emma
R. Robertshaw and to their family.
1992 - Chancellor's
Distinguished Teaching Award presented to Judith Vollmer, Assoc. Professor
of English and Writing Program Director.
1993 Oct. 15 - Groundbreaking
took place for a new 57,473 sq. ft. building which would house a library,
audio-visual services department, and administrative offices.

Distinguished Teaching Award presented to Dr. Mark McColloch, Assoc. Professor
of History.
1995 May 5 - Millstein
Library (Fanny K. Millstein Library) dedicated.
1995 Sept. 8 - Joan Chambers Children's Collection dedicated.
