When you see your academic advisor, please be prepared.
Consider the questions or concerns you need to address and write them down so you won't forget.
Become familiar with your major and general education requirements, and have a general idea of the schedule and classes you wish to take.
Above all, if you are uncertain about anything the advisor has told you -- ask questions! Make sure you are certain of what has been said or suggested before you leave the advisor's office.
If problems or questions arise once you have left the office, please don't hesitate to return to your advisor and seek further clarification and/or assistance. The advisors at Lynch Hall are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and evening hours are scheduled by appointment. It's always best to have an appointment any time to prevent the inconvenience of unnecessary waiting, but please feel free to drop-in with any immediate concerns.
The student is ultimately responsible for making final decisions on course selection and other academic matters within the guidelines and policies of the University and the Greensburg campus. The student is responsible for implementing his / her academic program. Students are expected to be generally familiar wtih the contents of the Bulletin, updated material contained on information sheets, basic degree and major requirements, registration information, change of course procedures, etc. Each student should maintain a personal file containing such information so that it is readily available. Students should schedule appointments with their advisors at least once each term prior to registration.
If you are a full-time student and wish to add or drop a class, you must have an advisor's signature on the green and white add/drop form. The forms are available at the Registrar's Office (Millstein Library), Lynch Hall (207), or from your advisor. Advisors are available in Lynch Hall during the hours given on the previous page for the add/drop process. Be advised -- you may have to wait in line! Also, please make sure the class you wish to add is open. Computers for this purpose are available in the hallway in front of the Registrar's Office, Millstein Library or consult the UPG Class Schedules on the website. If the class is closed, you must get the instructor to sign a permission slip allowing you to enter a closed class. Permission slips are available at the locations named above. In addition, you still need an add/drop slip, signed by that instructor, or an academic advisor.
Please be aware that failure to attend a class does not constitute official resignation or dropping of the class. In order to drop or resign officially, students must complete the proper forms (see above) before the respective deadlines (see below). Failure to complete the appropriate forms will result in an "F" grade and financial obligation for all courses.
Classes for the Spring (012) semester begin on Wednesday, January 3, 2001. Students have until Tuesday, January 16, 2001 to resign or drop a course for the Fall term with no tuition charge. This is also the last day to add a course and the last day to submit Buckley Amendment Refusal to Permit the Release of "Directory Information" to the Registrar's office. Classes dropped on or before January 16, 2001 will not appear on student transcripts. Courses dropped after this date, but prior to the ninth week of the term will receive a W grade on transcripts.
For dates regarding the summer sessions, please consult the Summer Schedule .
The last day for Withdrawing from a course is September 7 for the Fall 2001 term. Beyond that date, "W" grades are to be given only "in exceptional circumstances, with the permission of the Vice President of Academic Affairs."
Those exceptional circumstances will include two conditions, both of
which must be present to allow the "W" grade:
1. A documented medical reason,
with the documentation presented to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
2. A statement from the professor
involved that the student is currently passing the course.
The Vice President can be reached through the Office of Academic Affairs, 207 Lynch Hall, (724) 836-9940. "W" grades will be shown on transcripts.
Please be aware that failure to attend a class does not constitute
official resignation or
dropping of the class. In order to drop or resign officially,
students must complete the proper forms. Failure to complete the
appropriate forms will result in an "F" grade and financial obligation
for all courses.
Forms are available at the Registrar's Office (Millstein Library), Lynch Hall (207), or from your advisor. Advisors are available in Lynch Hall during the hours given on the previous page. Be advised -- you may have to wait in line!
