PRESIDENT’S AWARD FOR STAFF EXCELLENCE

Staff Employees

The President’s Award for Staff Excellence is the highest award that the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg grants to regular staff members of any classification in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the Greensburg Campus.

1. Purpose

To recognize regular staff (full- and part-time, union and non-union; non-faculty status) who have demonstrated excellence in the workplace.

2. Criteria

The candidate has demonstrated a consistent pattern of extraordinary dedication to the University above and beyond the candidate’s job responsibilities.

The Nomination Letter should include activities such as:

• exceptional contributions toward the effectiveness/efficiency of a unit and/or department
• excellent service to all those with whom the employee has contact
• consistent demonstration of positive interpersonal relationships that support the
multi-dimensional composition of the University community
• special efforts to recognize excellence in others
• volunteer work that promotes a positive image of the campus within the surrounding community

3. Number of Awards

One monetary award of $500, together with a certificate of recognition, will be awarded at the annual Honors Convocation.

4. Eligibility

The nominee must be a regular full-time or part-time staff member at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. This includes union, non-union, and non-faculty status staff members. The nominee must have completed a minimum of three years of regular employment at the Greensburg campus by the time of nomination. A staff member is not eligible to win the award in two consecutive years.

5. Nomination Process

The nomination packet must include a letter of nomination identifying the manner in which the nominee satisfies the criteria for the award.

Supporting Documents to the Nomination Letter:
• Nomination Form of the candidate (Note: Only one Nomination Form per nominee may be submitted each year. However, multiple letters of support may be attached to the original Nomination Form. The nominee’s signature on the Nomination Form will represent both their knowledge and acceptance of the nomination.)
• List of specific contributions, accomplishments, etc., made by the candidate. This information may be provided by the nominator and/or the nominee.
• If applicable, identify those who utilize the services of the nominee such as faculty, staff, students, alumni, etc.

The Facilitator of the Selection Committee must receive the complete Nomination Packet no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2003.

6. Repeat Nominations

A staff member who was nominated in a previous year, but was not chosen as the award winner, may be renominated. However, a new nomination letter and new supporting documentation must be submitted to the Committee as per Section 5, Nomination Process.

A staff member who wins the President’s Award for Staff Excellence is ineligible for nomination in the year immediately following receipt of the award.

7. Nominators

The nomination process is open to the entire UPG community. Therefore, any individual within the UPG community, including Advisory Board members, faculty, staff, students, and alumni, may nominate a staff member for an award.

8. Composition of the Award Selection Committee

The President of UPG will serve as the non-voting chairperson of this committee. The Senior Assistant to the President will serve as the committee facilitator. Other individuals, such as the Director of Human Resources, may be asked to provide assistance as necessary to ensure the success of the program. The voting committee members shall be appointed as the President sees fit.
