When the University
of Pittsburgh at Greensburg acquired land from the Lynch family in 1964
to develop the campus that exists today, the 1922 family estate was also
included. Named after Commander Charles McKenna Lynch, Lynch
Hall became UPG's first on-campus facility. Classes were held there
until the construction of Powers and Smith Halls in 1974 and 1975.
Administrative and faculty offices were also housed there until the opening
of the Faculty Office Building (1986) and the Millstein Library (1995).
Today, Lynch Hall contains only administrative offices. According
to legend, it is also home to an unnamed ghost, supposedly viewed
by security officers while on their nightly rounds. |
