The value of becoming a professional engineer is that a company will see that you area
certified to be a professional engineer before they hire you, which proves to them that
you know what you are doing and have been tried and tested. Having these credentials is
extremely valuable in making your chances of getting hired as high as possible. To become
a registered professional engineer you must compete a four-year college degree, work under
a Professional Engineer for at least four years, pass two competency exams, and earn a
license from the state. It is well worth completing these qualifications and becoming a
registered professional engineer because of the reasons I listed above. Also, Engineers
have such an impact on the safety and well-being of the public by designing and building
things that people use every day, that I think that every engineer should be required to
become a registered professional engineer. This way, we know they're reliable and qualified
enough to potentially put other people's lives in their hands.
