Back pain in most adults, working age adult patients, seem to be related to lifestyle factors such as smoking, obesity, physical inactivity, lack of education. And also to anatomic abnormalities of the lumbar spine – scoliosis or spondylosis. Back pain in the elderly is much more likely to be related to the degenerative changes due to aging. And things like smoking and obesity are much less important in the elderly.
