There is a whole spectrum of effects. A lot of children who don't have the full-blown syndrome are as severely affected in many ways. Here we took any kid who had a head circumference that was less than 10% of the growth parameter, and any one of the facial anomalies. We looked at those children and compared them to the other subjects and what's remarkable is that the I.Q. score on the non-FAS kids was 10 points lower, the math subtest on the WRAT achievement test was 15 points lower, the spelling test was 10 points lower, and the reading subtest was about 4 or 5 points lower.
