PID is an infection that involves the uterus, the fallopian tubes – any of the upper genital tract structures. We think that the way that it occurs etiologically is that women become infected by either Gonorrhea or Chlamydia through their cervix, which is considered to be the lower genital tract, and then these organisms ascend into the upper gential tract and cause the diseases.
