Differences were noted of baseline findings between the # of cigarettes smoked before and during the pregnancy.

White pregnant teens smoked significantly more before and during the pregnancy than their African American counterparts. Furthermore, White teens initiated smoking and started smoking regularly earlier than African American teens.

White teens had a greater percentage who thought they were strongly addicted to cigarettes. However, the self-reported pattern of cigarette inhalation was similar between White and African American pregnant teens.
