In studying older people: those age 65+, there are huge amounts of atherosclerosis. In the Cardiovascular Health Study, we measured subsclinical atherosclerosis.

As a control group, we set super health: free of atherosclerosis. Unfortunately, in our analyses in the CHS, we can not find enough number of super healthy men. Accordingly, the following data are mainly among women.

When we examined these risk factors in relationship to heart disease in men, only three things can predict heart attack in men.

- Extent of subsclinical disease
- Diabetes
- Hypertension

Lipoprotein levels are not predictive in older men. In women, the story is different.
