Formation of small dense LDL particles.

Lipoprotein lipase (LPL)/hepatic lipase (HL), which are basically involved in triglyceride metabolism play a major role in the size of LDL particles.

Cholesterol ester transfer protein (CETP) transfers and exchanges triglyceride for cholesterol ester between LDL, VLDL, and HDL.

CETP: Cholesterol ester transfer protein
LPL: Lipoprotein lipase
HL: Hepatic lipase
B: Apolipoprotein B100
CE: Cholesterol ester
TG: Triglyceride
VLDL: very low density lipoprotein
LDL: low density lipoprotein
