Size of randomized trials in myeloma

Only 40 trials (~30%) had sufficient power (beta=0.2) to detect a 20% difference in survival at 5 years; only 1 trial (<1%) was sufficiently powered to detect 10%  survival difference at 5 years. (Ann Oncology 2001; 12: 1611-1617)
