There is a growing sense that the HO and its derivatives deserve greater attention and emphasis in medical education. Times have changed but general principles have not. More time should be devoted to a revised, but still solemn form of the HO.

The oath or affirmation or declaration is a symbolic anchor or for medicine and ought to be considered upon entrance into medical education and used in on-going discussions about history and ethics.
