The slide gives a breakdown of costs across specialties in In Patients and out patients.

Many questions can be asked.

Why does the Cost per day vary so much?

Orthopaedics is cheap per day but because of a longer length of stay the Cost per episode is high. This is expected, the major cost of a patients stay in Clinical terms is in the first 48 hours - after that it is mainly hotel costs.

ENT and Ophthalmology have major OPD loads with a lot of follow up patients (4:1, Old:New)

ENT probably has few In Patient beds and they are often empty but the costs are high

Orthopaedic OPD is expensive - probably because more things are done - X-rays, Plasters etc.
