The slide shows one month of spending by a catering department.

During this month there has been overspending on salaries, other expenditure e.g provisions, while income from meals sold to staff has also gone down.

Overall expenditure in this month is greater than the budget for that month and the budget is net overspent. If this continues the overall budget for the year will be overspent.

It is possible that the extra cost of provisions in one month may be because there have been several large bulk purchases.

The decrease in income may be because there have been many staff away on holiday.
