Information is part of trying to predict future trends, service developments and cost implications.

This graph attempts to predict the future service load and cost implications for people born with Congenital Heart disease in part of the United Kingdom.

The number of people born with CDH will decline slightly (Intra-uterine diagnosis, termination) and as treatments and care improves (surgical techniques, gene therapy, transplants) the mortality will decline.

There is already a significant population of CDH survivors who will require ongoing treatment and care, the number of surgical procedures will increase.

The cost of the service will continue to rise throughout the study and shows no likelihood of levelling off in the next 20 years.
