Consider the use of the beds in a unit at times A, B, C and D:

A - long length of stay, short turnover interval, throughput 29, high occupancy of > 90%

Comment: Beds quite well used, but a long stay and admissions may be difficult.

B - shorter length of stay, shorter turnover interval, very high throughput and occupancy > 90%

Comment:Very efficient, staff would be exhausted and difficulties with admissions.

C - increased length of stay, increased turnover interval ++, reduced throughput of 25 and occupancy about 85%

Comment: Possible reaction to C, admissions easier.

D - much increased length of stay, much increased turnover interval, throughput 22, occupancy 74%

Comment: Inefficient use of beds.
