The relationship between the Manager and the employee or the owner and his worker is bound to have some tension about it.Yet tension is necessary for growth.
The agenda of each is different.
The Manager wants maximum work or at least a fair day’s work, low wages, satisfactory quality, low sickness, obedience to instruction…..sticking to the rules etc., quantity is very important to maximise productivity.
The worker wants more money and less work, he wants to feel fulfilled by his work and  proud of its quality, he wants freedom to do better, quantity is less important.
This is particularly so in Health Service Management where Clinical and Scientific staff in particular are working within Professional boundaries and ethics. For managers financial and waiting list priorities are real.
Patients wish to be seen quickly by a senior and experienced doctor, diagnosed effectively and offered appropriate treatment immediately and regardless of cost.
