A regression model relates an outcome y to predictor variables x. Regression coefficients can be estimated in epidemiological data, e.g. from a cohort of patients.
Predictions of the value of y can be obtained for future patients with various combinations of the values for the x variables. Prediction models in the medical literature typically contain between 2 and 20 predictor variables.
