The study was carried out in the province of Granada, located in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia (South of Spain). The province has a population of 790,515 inhabitants and 168 municipalities according to the 1991 census.

The Granada Cancer Registry was established in 1985 and developed by the Andalusian School of Public Health. This population based Registry cover all the province of Granada and its main objective is to determine the incidence of cancer in the province.
