This figure shows the distribution of case sessions by date. Red denotes bloodstream infections, yellow pyrogenic reactions without bloodstream infection.

The pattern of occurrence is sporadic, and does not seem consistent with a point source outbreak. This would not rule out water as a source, as carriage of any organism in water can itself be intermittent. However, seeing this also led us to consider some inconsistency of practice or intermittent human error.
