Design bias is an error that can occur due to fault in the study design (as studies done on poorly defined populations or with unsuitable control groups). Sampling bias occurs when a non-random sample of the population is considered. Bias in autopsy series arise from the fact that autopsies represent an non-random sample of all deaths. Ascertainment bias is the result of failure to represent all classes of persons supposed to be represented in the sample.
