Of potential importance in coronary heart disease risk assessment is the issue of CRP screening. In this prospective evaluation of middle-aged men in the Physicians' Health Study, the single strongest predictor of risk was high-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) level, but the best marker overall was the combination of hs-CRP and the total cholesterol:HDL-C ratio. These data suggest consistency between large-scale studies, which is an important issue for clinical consideration.
