As we accumulate more data on biomarkers to identify individuals at risk for venous and arterial thrombosis, it has become apparent that some markers such as homocysteine and D-dimer may identify individuals at risk for both venous and arterial thrombosis, whereas the majority of markers identify individuals at risk for either arterial thrombosis (e.g., hs-CRP) or venous thrombosis (factor V Leiden).
