Innovative mental health movement has grown up remarkably in Brazil and this has pushed federal government and local administrations to substantially increase the mental health budget. Health authorities have taken seriously the idea of moving from an hospital base model to a community base one: in 2006 extra hospital expenditure was higher than the hospital one.
