VA-HIT Results

The Veteran Affairs Administration HDL Intervention Trial (VA-HIT) was the first study to examine whether lipid therapy reduces the combined incidences of CAD death and nonfatal MI in men with established CAD who have low levels of HDL with “desirable” levels of LDL. This landmark study provides the first definitive proof that raising HDL reduces the risk of coronary and cerebrovascular events.
