The premise of this presentation is that epidemiology can help to produce better policy, and ultimately better population health. It can do this through contributing to policy analysis : the process of predicting the impacts of possible policies and evaluating past policies (there are much more complicated definitions). As the discipline that deals with the distribution and determinants of health-related events in populations, epidemiology can make a major contribution to policy analysis.
