In 1996 the networks Demos/Internet and RELARN-IP were established. Much more attention to the Russian Internet came from the Global One Russia and RosNet companies. In addition RSSI - the Russian Space Agency Internet which has an input to NASA Internet.

At the end of 1995 the maximum exchange between Russian network and foreign providers was about 2Mbit/s, but at the end of 1996 it reached 15 Mbit/c and is continuously growing.

According to data of www.comcon-2.com, by the end of June 1998 in Russia there were about 840 thousand people, who identified themselves as Internet users. Also, there were about 15 thousand independent sites at Russian Internet.

The Russian Internet Survey (www.lexa.ru) revealed that there were already 33 thousand independent resources (sites) on September 1999 in Russia. By the end of 1999 the number of Internet users in Russia has been reached 2 million people.
