The Atherosclerosis Risk in Commuities (ARIC) Study is a large prospective study of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors conducted in the United States communities of suburban Minneapolis, Minnesota; Washington County, Maryland; Forsyth County, North Carolina; and Jackson, Mississippi.

ARIC consists of approximately 16,000 black and white men and women participants from the four U.S. communities.

The ARIC Study  was begun in 1987.
