In the late 1990’s I applied to work in the Prison Service in England; I suggested that Public Health skills could be important in developing a service which was heavily criticised and where there was real opportunity for rethinking and reform.

My application was unsuccessful but in putting together the proposal it was necessary to learn about the service and to think about the implications for change.

This presentation is the result then of a failed “job application!”
