Pour 1983 (Carcinogenesis 4: 49-55) found that nitrosamines, components of tobacco smoke, induced prostate cancer in rats while Johansson et al 2000 (Prostate 42: 253-9) found that tobacco smoke led to a small but significant increase in the tumor cell fraction in rats with prostate cancer compared to controls.
