Development of Science Supercourse Network in the Countries of  Central Asia

Since 2008 Supercourse team from the University of Pittsburgh has been collaborating with the Library of Alexandria on the establishment of the Science Supercourse http://ssc.bibalex.org/home/list.jsf. This project has been very successful in reaching a large number of countries around the world and creating a network of over 50,000 individuals. Despite popularity of the Supercourse around the world, Central Asian Countries are still not very active in the development of virtual professional networks and the exchange of training materials. It is now possible to build the network and knowledge exchange as the result of the EU sponsored CAREN project which is working bringing high speed internet to all universities in Central Asia. The WHO collaborating Centre at the University of Pittsburgh is beginning to establish Global Health Network Supercourse in Central Asian Countries for the improvement in training in Global Health and Prevention with the support of the State Department/USAID. This activity will involve the development of a sustainable Scientific public health network in Central Asia, with the video conferencing network to support general education initiatives. Key partner country will be Kazakhstan and key organizational partners will include State Health Department, University of Pittsburgh WHO Collaborating Centre, Nazarbayev University, Academy of Preventive Medicine of Kazakhstan, CAREN network, Dante Network, WHO and  the UN. In this effort, we propose to utilize similar approaches that we have been using with the parent Supercourse to train a sustainable public health workforce in Central Asia. We propose to build a Central Asian Supercourse to share knowledge within and between central Asian countries as well as the rest of the world.
