Children frequently suffer head injuries, either as an isolated event or associated with other injuries. Between 60 and 80 % of admissions for head injury are classified as MINOR or MILD with a generally good outcome. The management of Minor Head Injury is controversial and diagnostic procedures and in-hospital observation in this group, are focused on the minor risk of development of an Intracranial Haematoma. Certly, early detection and prompt surgical evacuation of such haematomas yields reduced morbidity and mortality. Therefore, management protocols must establish a safe and effective standard of care that allows distinction between patients who require observation and those who can be discharged from the emergency department, thus eliminating unnecessary tests and/or hospitalization.
