He went on to show, using primary liver cell cultures, that not only did hyperforin up-regulate CYP3A, but it turned on a whole cascade of things, dependent upon PSR, other oxidating enzymes, conjugating enzyme and transporting enzyme.  The end result is this now explains the molecular and biochemical basis by which a potential herbal anti-depressant would interfere with drugs.

  Now, drug companies are doing this today and studying mainstream medications.  We’re understanding these interactions.  If we’re going to use herbal products for health purposes, we have to study them the same way.
