Iron deficiency is the most common nutrient deficiency.  Iron deficiency is harder to measure, so people often use anemia as an indicator (can use a simple test of finger-prick blood sample).  Possibly half of anemia is due to iron deficiency – and in addition  to the 1B who are iron deficient and anemic, about another 1B are iron deficient but not anemic
