Schools provide wonderful settings for education on environmental issues. Teaching children about the importance of washing their hands is just as relevant today as it was in the 1950’s . Clean hands would help prevent lead poisoning and many viral and bacterial diseases.

Current environmental and health education programs include:

- Providing educational materials

- Incorporating a K-12 environmental curriculum with teacher training by school districts

- Experiential environmental camps for children and youth

- Reward and recognition of environmental projects developed and implemented by youth.
