A Human rights organization, The Broad Women’s Movement, put out a report specifically on sterilizations.  The report shows that the number of female sterilizations was drastically increased during 1996 and 1997. There was also an increase in the proportion of sterilizations in comparison to other contraceptive methods.  While the uses of all family-planning methods were supposed to be on the rise, only sterilization was significantly increased.
