Table 1 shows the fertility rates (TFR’s) of South America from 1950 – 2050.  The total fertility rate refers to the average number of children per woman.  The TFR in Latin America as a whole as well as in Peru has been steadily decreasing since 1950. 

 

The growth rate began to receive notice when the population doubled to 330 million between 1950 and 1975.
