The Langley, Nolan and Nolan Model for Improvement offers an efficient and practical method to foster improvement. Developed in a three year interdisciplinary collaborative to improve health professions education directed by the Institute for Health Care Improvement, this model can be applied to community, professional, and individual improvements. It has been used by:

-communities to plan strategically for health improvement
-hospitals to improve physician diagnostic methods and clinical care
-health professions schools for curriculum development, clinical education, and faculty development
- individuals to improve workout performance and meal preparation
