Public health is not an invention of the 20th century, and the issues we debate today have many parallels in history. For example, nearly 200 years ago English upper classes were protesting laws requiring safer disposal of human sewage, indicating that if the poor really didn’t want to be sick they should just move to the country and get out of the unhealthy slums!!
