They have been called anomalies, monsters, angels, and medical marvels.  At their birth, the community has rushed to abandon, gaze at, or repair their fragile bodies.   Congenital abnormalities are physical defects present on a fetus or infant.  Infants with congenital abnormalities have been born into every society and culture, from prehistoric tribes to our contemporary world.  The physical conditions remain the same from one century to the next, but the interpretations and responses of the society are remarkably different.
