In the past there were some studies that indicated that hormone replacement therapy might be a protective factor for heart disease. That research is now in question.

The American Heart Association, US Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health and the National Heart Lung Blood Institute  do not advise women to use postmenopausal hormone therapy to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease or stroke.*
