Infant mortality is much higher for African Americans and American Indians when compared with other groups.  This slide demonstrates that infant mortality can vary widely within racial/ethnic groups.  For example, Cuban Americans have the lowest rate of infant mortality for any subgroup, but Puerto Ricans have one of the highest rates.

Some of the disparities in infant mortality are caused by disparities in Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
