Feeding patterns from the age of zero to three months were classified into "breast-feeding only", "mixed", or "artificial feeding". Positive parental smoking was defined as having mother or father who smoked one or more cigarettes per day at the time of the survey. Subjects whose mother or father had ever been treated for asthma were defined as having a positive parental history of asthma.
