The main destination for these elite future physicians was the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.  However, many of these men chose to remain in the more refined atmosphere of the Old World, and so were lost to the colonial cause.  However, the leading lights in the medical profession who finally put colonial medicine on the right path were the men who ventured across the seas and returned, inspired and determined to upgrade the status and education of the physicians practicing in the colonies.
