In contrast to studies among adults, findings from studies of children and adolescents have shown weaker and inconsistent associations of birth weight, ponderal index, and other measures of fetal growth with early risk factors for the expression of adulthood disease. Blood pressure has been a frequently used outcome variable in these studies.
