The iatros did use auscultation, just as is done today, to listen to certain lung noises, but he could do little or nothing for these conditions.  The iatros did use bleeding and cathartic drugs to redress the imbalance of his patients' humors that he believed was the cause of disease, just as an American doctor would still be doing through the American Civil War.
