The swnw did have, by modern standards, an unusual view of the body's circulatory system.   Worry about the concept of intestinal decay was a national fetish.  Therefore the swnw who practiced his specialty as the "Shepherd of the anus" was very prominent among all his fellow physicians.  The swnw believed that vessels came from the heart but also had a secondary assembly center around the anus.  These vessels carried blood, air, nourishment, and ukhedu.  This feared substance came from natural human decay and might rise, from the anus through the vessels, to reside and bring disease to any part of the body.  Because of this underlying fear of ukhedu, the "shepherd of the anus" had numerous prescriptions for its treatment.
