The ashipu and the asu and their healing arts disappeared from the Middle East by the time Herodotus, the great Greek father of history, visited Mesopotamia in the mid 5th Century B. C. In his writings Herodotus stated: "They bring out the sick to the market place:  for they do not use physicians.
